Well, after a lot of conference calls, planning, shopping and putting together this event, our 2nd annual Vinet Family reunion is over. It’s incredible how fast time goes by. It just seemed like a few months ago that we were all together for our very first Vinet Family Reunion.
Let me say that I was really scared the first time I called up some of my cousins to get this party started. I didn’t know any of them except for some posts on Facebook and a few shared emails. With their help and input, we had a great time.
This year, I made some great connections, getting to know a few more cousins (as they got to know me as well) and put together our 2nd annual Vinet Reunion. We had great food, great music and great activities. The decoration was beautiful and represented what family reunions are all about.
We enjoyed music played by David McLachlan, Charlie Veaudry, Paul Gallagher and Lucille Lafrance. It’s so wonderful to listen and enjoy music from our relatives and were treated to some original songs written and created by David.
I’m always blown away by how talented and creative a family with have. We had a centerpiece challenge where we asked our families to create a centerpiece that best describes their family. Here are some examples of the centerpieces:
One of the reasons for getting together is that our family is growing and shrinking at the same time. Since our last reunion, we had three of our family members pass away: Joseph Boyle Flavin (14) Ron Vinet (75) and Tom Wagner (67).
We also gained quite a few babies on our family since our last reunion. A total of 10 so far. Here are the names:
- Dylan
- Micah
- Felicity
- Kayla
- Orwell
- Finn
- Thea
- Annabelle
- Boy
- Boy
So you can see why it’s important for us to stay connected and continue to get together and learn who this new generation is and help them learn about us.
Our event this year didn’t bring in as many people as we had anticipated. The total number of participant was only 33 compared to 67 for our first event. Even though we were a smaller group, we still had fun and made new connections.
Several of you asked us if we made money or broke even with our event. Unfortunately, we did not. The committee will get together and discuss what are next plans are and ways to make our reunions more affordable for everyone (I took the time to listen). I’m hoping to be able to continue with our reunions as many of you shared just how much you enjoyed and gained from connecting with one another (outside of funerals or weddings.)
